Digital Colony Counter is a laboratory counting instrument designed for manual counting of bacterial colonies on agar plates across different Petri dish sizes. The Colony Counter Model 570 operates at 240 V, 50 Hz and uses solid-state circuitry with a pressure sensor counting system to provide uniform sensitivity across the full working field, supporting consistent count registration over the entire plate surface.

Illumination is provided by an electronic ring-shaped lamp that can illuminate the Petri plate directly or indirectly. This helps provide steady, quiet, no-glare lighting for comfortable viewing during longer colony counting sessions. Counts are displayed up to 9999 on a bright red LED display, with a reset button for immediate zeroing back to 0. Each registered count is confirmed by an audible beeper signal, helping users maintain confidence during repetitive counting workflows.

The flexible adjuster accepts 10 cm to 15 cm Petri dishes, making the unit suitable for different plate sizes used in microbiology laboratories, teaching laboratories, and supervised education environments. An adjustable focusing arm allows the magnifying lens to be positioned at different angles and heights, while the standard 1.5× lens can be raised, lowered, and rotated 360° for easier access to plates. The background plate can be switched between white and black to improve visual contrast depending on colony visibility and sample type.

The intelligent counting system allows registration using any marking pen, supporting practical manual counting workflows without requiring a specialised pen. With a unit size of 30 × 33 × 10 cm and weight of 5 kg, this digital colony counter is designed for bench use in laboratory or educational settings under appropriate supervision.

For quality and laboratory workflow reference, ISO 7218 provides general requirements and guidance for microbiological examinations, including practical principles relevant to colony counting. ISO 4833-1 is relevant to enumeration of microorganisms by colony count technique at 30 °C, supporting the application context of colony counting on agar plates. ISO 9001 may also be used as a general quality management reference where supplier or manufacturer certification is available. These references should only be used where supported by the manufacturer’s documentation and laboratory application requirements.

For LabChoice Australia customers, Digital Colony Counter provides a practical solution for microbiology laboratories, education facilities, and supervised training environments requiring consistent colony counting, clear illumination, adjustable magnification, audible count confirmation, and reliable manual count registration.
