Description

The Hand Whirling Stroboscope with Adjustable Slits, also known as a manual classroom stroboscope, is designed for demonstrating the principle of stroboscopy in physics laboratories, school science classrooms and supervised educational motion experiments.

The instrument works by allowing the eye to look through a narrow slit while a slotted disc is spun by hand. As the rotating slots pass the stationary viewing slit, the moving object is seen as a rapid sequence of on and off images. When the speed of the rotating disc is matched correctly to the motion being observed, the object can appear stationary, slowly moving forward or slowly moving backward. This makes the stroboscope useful for teaching periodic motion, rotational motion, frequency and visual sampling effects.

The adjustable version uses two discs that can be set to provide 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 12 slots in the rotating disc. This gives teachers more flexibility when demonstrating how slit number and rotation speed affect the apparent motion of an object. The updated design is made from ABS plastic and is more compact than the earlier wood and Masonite style. The improved slot adjustment method supports easier handling and more effective classroom use.

This hand stroboscope is suitable for simple, low-cost demonstrations where an electronic strobe is not required. It is useful for observing rotating discs, vibrating objects and other repeating motion activities in introductory physics lessons. The instrument should be used under appropriate supervision. Users should keep fingers, loose clothing and nearby objects clear of moving equipment, and should avoid using the stroboscope in unsafe positions near rotating apparatus.

LabChoice Australia supplies Hand Whirling Stroboscopes for school physics departments, university teaching laboratories and educational motion study workspaces. They are suitable for supervised demonstrations of stroboscopy, apparent motion, rotational speed, periodic movement and frequency-related visual effects.
