Description
The U-Core Electromagnet with Armature, 12 V DC, also known as a classroom electromagnet and armature set, is designed for physics and electricity demonstrations involving magnetic force and current flow. This simple electromagnet includes two coils, each with 600 turns, wound on steel centres. The steel centres form a magnetic yoke, allowing the apparatus to demonstrate how an electromagnet produces attraction when current passes through the coils. The coils are connected to 2 × 4 mm spin-free IEC terminals, supporting connection to compatible laboratory leads and suitable low-voltage classroom power supplies.
A steel plate fitted with a hook is supplied as the armature, or moving part, of the electromagnet. When the coils are energised, the armature is attracted to the steel cores. The holding force between the armature and the cores increases as the current through all turns of both coils in series increases, making the apparatus useful for demonstrating the relationship between current and magnetic effect. The electromagnet can be used with either AC or DC to demonstrate differences in operation, subject to the approved classroom method and suitable power supply selection.
This apparatus is suitable for teaching electromagnetism, magnetic attraction, current effects, magnetic circuits, armature movement and basic electrical energy conversion in school physics laboratories. Users should confirm the power supply setting, connection polarity where required, voltage rating, current limit and experiment procedure before use. Coils may warm during operation, so continuous operating time should be controlled by the teacher or laboratory supervisor. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the U-core electromagnet with armature only. Power supply, leads, meters, weights, stands and additional accessories are not included unless specified separately.
