Description
The PSSC Helical Steel Spring Kit, also known as a Hooke’s law spring kit or spring extension apparatus, is designed for demonstrating the relationship between applied load and spring extension. The kit consists of a suitable coil spring with an eye at each end, together with 0.5 kg and 1 kg plated steel masses as listed. By supporting the spring from a suitable retort stand and applying the masses individually or together, students can investigate spring extension under load and explore Hooke’s law.
Measurements should be taken using a rule or tape measure, allowing students to record extension values and compare how the spring responds to different applied masses. For more accurate results, the supplied masses should be weighed before the experiment so the applied force can be calculated more reliably. This kit is suitable for teaching force, extension, elasticity, proportional relationships, load measurement and introductory mechanics. Users should confirm spring condition, stand support, mass values, measurement method and classroom experiment procedure before use.
Keep feet, hands and glassware clear of suspended masses. Dropped weights can cause injury or damage benches, floors and apparatus. Do not overload the spring, stretch it beyond its elastic limit or release it suddenly while under tension. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected helical steel spring kit with 0.5 kg and 1 kg masses only. Retort stand, bosshead, clamp, ruler, tape measure, balance, worksheets, PPE and additional mechanics accessories are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Helical Steel Spring Kits and Hooke’s law teaching apparatus for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories and educational facilities requiring practical equipment for force and extension demonstrations.
