Description
The Newton’s Cradle, also known as Newton’s balls or a momentum conservation demonstrator, is designed for showing the transfer of momentum and kinetic energy through a line of suspended metal spheres. Named after Sir Isaac Newton, this apparatus helps demonstrate key mechanics concepts including conservation of momentum, conservation of kinetic energy and Newton’s third law, which states that for every force there is an equal and opposite force. When one sphere is lifted and released, one sphere on the opposite side is pushed outward. When two spheres are released, two spheres move out on the other side, helping students observe how motion and energy are transferred through collisions.
The apparatus has listed dimensions of 120 × 110 × 150 mm, with 2 cm diameter stainless steel balls, a wooden base and cords made from synthetic polymers, such as fishing line, as listed. This product is suitable for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories, physics classrooms and general educational demonstrations where students need a simple visual model of momentum transfer. Users should confirm apparatus size, ball diameter, base stability, cord condition and classroom demonstration setup before use.
Do not pull the balls excessively sideways, twist the cords, strike the balls with external objects or use the apparatus on an unstable bench surface. Keep fingers, hair, loose clothing and small objects clear of the moving balls during demonstration. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected Newton’s cradle apparatus only. Worksheets, timers, sensors, replacement cords, storage case and additional physics accessories are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Newton’s Cradles and physics teaching apparatus for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories and educational facilities requiring practical demonstrations of force, motion, momentum and energy transfer.
