Description
The Hooke’s Law Tension Spring Sets, also known as tension spring sets for mass and extension experiments, are designed for teaching the relationship between applied load and spring extension. They are suitable for school physics laboratories, university teaching laboratories, mechanics classrooms and supervised educational demonstrations. These spring sets support practical Hooke’s Law experiments where students add masses to a spring and measure the extension produced. The activity helps demonstrate force, elasticity, spring constant, proportional behaviour and the practical limits of linear extension.
Two set types are available. The non-proportional set includes five tension springs that are not designed to be directly relative to one another. This set provides varied spring behaviour through different spring diameters, lengths and wire diameters. The non-proportional set includes tension springs sized 6.2 × 320 mm with 1.02 mm wire diameter, 6.2 × 210 mm with 1.02 mm wire diameter, 7.8 × 70 mm with 0.90 mm wire diameter, 9.2 × 300 mm with 0.71 mm wire diameter and 14.5 × 300 mm with 0.88 mm wire diameter.
The proportional spring set includes six tension springs designed to be relative to one another by wire thickness, spring diameter and length. This allows more structured comparison of how spring geometry affects extension behaviour under load. The proportional set includes tension springs sized 10 × 150 mm with 0.56 mm wire diameter, 10 × 300 mm with 0.56 mm wire diameter, 10 × 150 mm with 0.71 mm wire diameter, 10 × 300 mm with 0.71 mm wire diameter, 15 × 150 mm with 0.71 mm wire diameter and 15 × 300 mm with 0.71 mm wire diameter. All six proportional springs have an eye at each end. These spring sets are intended for educational use under appropriate supervision. Users should select suitable masses, avoid overloading the springs and record extension carefully to support repeatable classroom measurements.
LabChoice Australia supplies Hooke’s Law Tension Spring Sets for school physics departments, university teaching laboratories, mechanics lessons and educational force experiments. They are suitable for supervised demonstrations covering mass versus extension, spring constant comparison, elastic behaviour, proportionality and introductory force measurement.
