Description
The Mass of Electron Apparatus with Tube, Without Solenoid, also known as an electron deflection apparatus or electron mass demonstration tube, is designed for advanced physics experiments involving electron motion in a magnetic field. The apparatus consists of a “Magic Eye” tube mounted on a base with terminals to accept both heater and plate voltages as listed. A fan of electrons can be observed by viewing through the end of the tube. When a compatible air-cored solenoid is placed over the tube and current is passed through the solenoid, the magnetic field at the centre causes the electron fan to curve or distort.
This curvature can then be measured and used to support an approximate calculation of the mass of an electron during supervised physics demonstrations. The apparatus is suitable for teaching electron beams, magnetic deflection, charged particle motion, electromagnetic fields and classical electron mass measurement concepts. Users should confirm tube operating voltage, heater voltage, plate voltage, compatible solenoid, power supply, measurement method and complete experiment procedure before ordering or use.
This product is supplied without solenoid. A compatible air-cored solenoid and suitable power supplies are required for the magnetic deflection experiment. Electrical operation may involve hazardous voltages. Use only with approved classroom or laboratory power supplies, insulated leads and teacher-controlled procedures. Do not operate with damaged terminals, exposed conductors, cracked tube glass or unsuitable power connections. Allow the tube and apparatus to cool before handling after use.
This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected mass of electron apparatus with tube only, without solenoid. Air-cored solenoid, power supplies, leads, meters, rulers, worksheets, PPE and additional electromagnetism accessories are not included unless specified separately.
