Description
The Small Motor and Generator Kit with Pulley, ASEP, also known as a DC motor generator demonstration kit or energy conversion motor kit, is designed for teaching the relationship between electrical work, mechanical work and energy transfer. This apparatus consists of a single small DC electric motor with a two-step pulley attached as listed. The pulley allows a thin cord to be wound around it for lifting a weight during classroom demonstrations. When clamped to a bench with the pulley overhanging the edge, the motor can be used to lift a weight from the floor. This allows students to compare the electrical work supplied to the motor with the mechanical work done in lifting the weight.
The same system can also be used in reverse. The weight can be allowed to fall, turning the pulley and driving the motor as a generator to recover electrical power from mechanical motion. This kit supports discussions on potential energy, kinetic energy, electrical energy, mechanical work, generators, motors and energy conversion efficiency. Users should confirm the complete kit contents, bench clamp requirement, cord suitability, weight range, power supply, voltage limit, meter arrangement and classroom procedure before use.
Use only with compatible low-voltage DC classroom power supplies. Do not connect the motor directly to mains electricity or unsuitable external power sources. Keep fingers, hair, loose clothing and small objects away from the rotating pulley, moving cord and falling weight path during operation. Weights should be handled carefully and prevented from dropping onto feet, glassware, cables or bench surfaces.
This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected small motor / generator kit with pulley only. Bench clamp, cord, weights, power supply, leads, meters, lamps, worksheets and additional electricity accessories are not included unless specified separately.
