Description
The Joule’s Calorimeter Assembly with 2 Ohm Heating Coil, also known as an electrical calorimeter for Joule heating experiments, is designed for teaching laboratories where students investigate the relationship between electrical energy input and water temperature rise. The assembly uses a standard 50 × 75 mm copper calorimeter cup, diameter × height, fitted with a Joule’s insert. The copper cup supports practical heat transfer experiments where water is heated using an electrical resistance coil. The Joule’s insert consists of a calorimeter lid complete with stirrer. The stirrer allows the water inside the calorimeter cup to be mixed during heating, helping improve temperature uniformity during compatible experiments.
The insert includes 2 × 4 mm spin-free socket head IEC terminals. These terminals support conducting rods that carry the 2 ohm resistance heating coil inside the calorimeter setup. When fitted to the calorimeter cup, a measured quantity of water can be heated by a measured temperature change. The electrical energy required for heating can then be calculated or measured using the laboratory’s selected power, voltage, current and timing method. This assembly is commonly used for Joule’s law, electrical energy, heat transfer and specific heat capacity teaching demonstrations. It is suitable for water-based experiments under supervised school or laboratory conditions.
The product is often used with the Insulating Box and Lid, LC-80-HL0830-001, to help reduce heat loss during calorimetry activities. Users should confirm accessory compatibility before purchase or classroom setup. This calorimeter assembly should be used with water only and under teacher or laboratory supervisor guidance. Electrical connections, heating time, water level and temperature should be controlled according to the approved practical method. This item is supplied as the Joule’s calorimeter assembly with cup, lid, stirrer, terminals, conducting rods and 2 ohm heating coil. Power supply, thermometer, leads, insulating box and any additional accessories are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Joule’s Calorimeter Assemblies for school science laboratories, physics classrooms, chemistry teaching spaces and general education laboratories requiring practical apparatus for electrical heating and calorimetry experiments.
