Description
The Wooden Hollow Sonometer, 1 m, also known as a laboratory monochord or Mersenne’s law demonstration apparatus, is designed for practical teaching of sound, vibration and wave behaviour. A sonometer is used to demonstrate the relationship between the frequency of sound produced by a plucked string and key variables such as string tension, vibrating length and mass per unit length. The 1 m long wooden hollow body supports classroom demonstrations where students can observe how changing the effective string length or tension changes the pitch produced by the plucked string.
This apparatus is especially useful for demonstrating Mersenne’s law, helping students connect practical sound observations with theoretical relationships in physics. The sonometer supports teaching topics such as frequency, pitch, resonance, standing waves, string vibration, wave speed and sound production in a clear hands-on format. It is suitable for school physics laboratories, university teaching laboratories, STEM classrooms and general educational environments requiring practical apparatus for sound experiments.
Users should confirm the required setup, wire type, tensioning method and experiment procedure before use. Strings or wires should not be overtightened beyond the approved demonstration method. Care should be taken when working with tensioned wires. Keep fingers, eyes and loose items clear of the wire path during setup, adjustment and plucking. A spare set of wires is available separately under LC-80-PA1369-01 for compatible replacement or maintenance requirements.
This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate teacher or laboratory supervision. This item is supplied as the wooden hollow sonometer only unless specified separately. Spare wires, masses, pulley systems, tuning accessories, clamps and additional demonstration items are not included unless listed.
LabChoice Australia supplies Wooden Hollow Sonometers for school science laboratories, physics classrooms, university teaching laboratories and STEM education environments requiring practical Mersenne’s law and sound wave demonstration apparatus.
