Description
The Collision in 2 Dimensions Kit, PSSC, also known as a two-dimensional collision apparatus or angular collision demonstration kit, is designed for studying collisions between balls moving in two dimensions. This old PSSC-style instrument clamps to a bench and allows balls of different masses to collide at selected angles, helping students investigate momentum, direction, velocity components and collision behaviour. During the experiment, the balls leave the apparatus and reach the floor. Carbon paper is used to leave marks at the landing points, allowing students to measure distance and angle after impact.
A plumb bob positioned below the target ball provides the zero reference point on the floor, supporting more consistent measurement of displacement, direction and angular relationships. The apparatus is useful for teaching laws of dynamics, conservation of momentum, vector resolution, mass effects and two-dimensional motion in senior school or university physics practicals. Users should confirm the complete kit contents, ball sizes and masses, bench clamp compatibility, carbon paper requirement, plumb bob setup and classroom measurement procedure before ordering or use.
Keep students clear of the landing area while the balls are released. Avoid standing directly in the path of moving or falling balls. Use only on a stable bench with the clamp securely tightened. Do not release balls toward people, glassware, electrical equipment or fragile items. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected Collision in 2 Dimensions Kit only. Carbon paper, measuring tape, protractor, graph paper, replacement balls, floor protection sheets, worksheets and additional mechanics accessories are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Collision in 2 Dimensions Kits and physics teaching apparatus for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories and educational facilities requiring practical demonstrations of momentum, vector motion and two-dimensional collision dynamics.
