Description
The Spectrum Tube EHV Unit and Tube Support, also known as a spectrum discharge tube power supply, is designed for operating compatible spectrum discharge tubes in spectroscopy demonstrations. It is suitable for school physics laboratories, chemistry classrooms, university teaching laboratories and supervised educational environments. This unit is intended for use with spectrum discharge tubes containing different gases. When energised, the gas inside a compatible tube emits characteristic wavelengths of light from the thin middle section of the tube, supporting observation of emission spectra and spectral line behaviour. The instrument is a self-contained power supply designed to run from 240 V AC mains power. It includes a stainless steel rod and sliding clamp to support compatible spectrum tubes of different lengths during demonstration work.
The high-voltage terminal is recessed in a deep socket on the top face of the instrument. This design supports direct tube mounting and helps avoid the need for separate high-voltage cables in compatible setups. The mains cable is removable, supporting practical storage and setup between lessons. Spectrum tubes are not included with this unit and should be selected separately according to the required gas type and teaching application. The supplied details note that hydrogen gas discharge tubes require the highest voltage for correct operation, and this power supply provides the correct voltage for compatible hydrogen spectrum tube operation. Users should confirm tube compatibility before use. This product must not be confused with a spectral lamp power supply, which is a different type of instrument used for spectral lamps. This unit is specifically for compatible spectrum discharge tubes and tube support applications.
This is very high-voltage apparatus and must be used only under appropriate supervision by trained staff or qualified instructors. Always turn off power before adjusting or changing tubes, never insert fingers into the socket, avoid touching tubes or contacts during operation and follow suitable laboratory electrical safety procedures.
LabChoice Australia supplies Spectrum Tube EHV Units and Tube Supports for school physics departments, chemistry laboratories, university teaching laboratories and spectroscopy education environments. They are suitable for supervised spectrum tube demonstrations, gas discharge experiments, emission spectra observation and introductory spectroscopy teaching using compatible spectrum discharge tubes.
