Description
The Brass Bar and Gauge Apparatus with Insulating Handle, also known as a bar and gauge thermal expansion demonstrator, is designed to show the effect of temperature change on metal dimensions. This classic apparatus uses a matched brass bar and gauge to demonstrate that metals expand when heated and contract when cooled. When the brass bar is heated, it expands and can no longer fit the gauge correctly in both length and diameter. When the gauge is chilled in ice, the gauge contracts, which can also prevent the bar from fitting through the gauge as expected.
The IEC item is carefully machined and matched for size so that the experiment works reliably. Accurate matching is important because poorly made bar and gauge sets may not demonstrate the intended expansion effect clearly. Unlike a ball and ring apparatus, the bar and gauge are not chained together, so both parts should be handled and stored carefully after use. This apparatus is suitable for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories and physics classrooms studying heat, solids, thermal expansion, contraction and material behaviour. Users should confirm the approved heating method, cooling method, handling procedure and supervision requirements before use.
The brass components may become hot during the demonstration. Use the insulating handle, heat-resistant gloves, tongs or approved handling tools, and allow the apparatus to cool before storage. Do not touch heated metal directly, overheat the apparatus, quench hot metal unsafely or use near flammable materials without proper controls. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. Burner, lighter, ice, beaker, tongs, heat mat, gloves, PPE and additional accessories are not included unless specified separately.
