Description
The Air Track Sub Base Kits, 2 m and 2.5 m, also known as air track support base kits, are designed for compatible air track systems used in physics and mechanics experiments. The sub base is an optional device that mounts below the air tube and is joined with sets of adjustable screws to help pull the air tube as straight as possible for best performance. During installation, the feet are removed from the air tube and fitted instead to the sub base, allowing the sub base to provide the primary support structure for the track.
The 2 m sub base is supplied complete with assembly kit and is listed as a 10 stud kit for compatible 2 m air tracks. The 2.5 m sub base is supplied complete with assembly kit and is listed as a 12 stud kit for compatible 2.5 m air tracks. Sub bases are often used to improve the straightness of 2.5 m or longer air tracks, where additional support can help maintain better alignment over the full track length. The 2 m air track is normally used without a sub base, although users may choose to add the sub base when a very straight track setup is preferred. These kits are useful for air track experiments involving low-friction motion, velocity, acceleration, momentum, collision studies and glider movement where track straightness supports better experimental consistency.
