Savart’s Tone Wheel Alloy STEM Apparatus, 10 mm and 6 mm Diameter

$88.00(Ex GST)

  • Four toothed metal discs on shaft, about 73 mm diameter, rotate to generate tones in acoustics lessons.
  • Stiff card pressed to wheel edge, teeth strike card, produces audible tone linked to tooth count.
  • Tooth counts 36, 45, 54, 72, represent ratio 4:5:6:8 for frequency relationship teaching.
  • Sound all four discs together, combined tones form natural chord, demonstrates musical intervals.
  • STEM demonstrator for tone, frequency ratios, harmonics, and auditory comparison without electronics.

Description

Savart’s tone wheel apparatus is a STEM acoustics demonstrator that generates audible tones using toothed metal discs. The set consists of four metal discs about 73 mm diameter mounted on a central shaft so the discs can be rotated. Each disc has a different number of teeth, and when a stiff card is held against the edge of a rotating disc, the teeth produce a clear tone.
The four tooth counts are 36, 45, 54, and 72, forming the ratio 4:5:6:8. When all four discs are sounded together against the stiff card, the combined tones form a natural musical chord, allowing students to explore frequency ratios, harmonics, and tone relationships through direct listening.

FAQs
