Description
The Bell Jar and Electric Bell Vacuum Experiment Kit, also known as a sound in vacuum demonstration apparatus, is designed for teaching the behaviour of sound waves in school physics laboratories, science classrooms and supervised educational experiments. This kit allows teachers and students to observe that sound transmission depends on a material medium such as air. As air is pumped out of the bell jar, the sound from the electric bell becomes progressively fainter until it can no longer be heard clearly. The kit includes a glass bell jar, vacuum plate with valve, rubber seal, battery-operated electric bell and instructions. These components support a complete classroom demonstration when used with a compatible electric vacuum pump, tubing and batteries.
The bell jar is made from glass and is shaped to fit over the vacuum plate. The rubber seal helps create the required vacuum chamber when the apparatus is connected to suitable vacuum equipment. The supplied electric bell may be removed, allowing the bell jar and vacuum plate to be used for other suitable vacuum demonstrations. This gives the kit broader classroom value beyond the standard sound wave experiment. An electric vacuum pump is required but not included. Tubing and 2 × AA batteries are also required and are not included. Users should confirm pump and tubing compatibility before setup. Because the apparatus uses a glass bell jar and vacuum conditions, it should be handled carefully. Inspect the glass before use, avoid impact or sudden stress, and operate the equipment only under appropriate supervision following laboratory safety procedures.
