Description

This convection in air apparatus is a hands-on STEM demonstrator for heat transfer in gases. A candle heats the air inside the chamber, warm air rises up one chimney while cooler air flows down the other chimney to replace it. With a smoke source and a dark background, the moving convection currents can be seen clearly, making it easier for students to connect the model to real situations such as air-conditioning airflow, building fire drafts, and wind direction changes near beaches.
Includes a metal box with an acrylic front panel and two acrylic chimneys. Smoke source required.
Unpacking and setup: Slide the front panel out to access the two acrylic chimneys.

FAQs
Q: What heat transfer process does this demonstrate?
A: Convection in air, heat transfer by moving gas currents.

Q: What causes airflow through the chimneys?
A: Air heated by a candle rises up one chimney, cooler air moves down the other.

Q: What is included?
A: Metal box with acrylic front and two acrylic chimneys.

Q: What extra item is required for best visibility?
A: A smoke source, to make the air currents visible.

Q: How do I access the chimneys during setup?
A: Slide the front panel out, then access the two acrylic chimneys.
