Description
The Chladni’s plates kit is a vibration and resonance demonstration set that produces visible nodal patterns on vibrating plates. It includes two bronze plates, one square and one round, approximately 150 mm diameter. Each plate mounts centrally to a clamp that fixes the plate rigidly to a bench while allowing it to vibrate freely when excited.
A small amount of special sand is sprinkled on the plate surface. During use, the plate is lightly touched at a chosen point and a resin-coated violin bow is drawn across the plate edge to drive vibration at natural frequencies. As the plate resonates, the sand migrates and collects into intricate Chladni patterns, clearly showing nodal lines and standing-wave behaviour.
