Description
The IEC compact direct-vision spectroscope is a practical instrument for observing spectra and estimating light wavelength using a calibrated nanometre scale. Light enters the black chamber through an adjustable slit, allowing control of brightness and band definition during viewing. The eyepiece contains a 600 line/mm grating that separates incoming light into its component colours or wavelengths for clear spectrum observation.
The spectrum appears displaced to the right-hand side and is viewed against a scale calibrated in nanometres (nm). Each digit on the scale represents 100 nm, supporting quick wavelength estimation in classroom and lab spectroscopy activities.
FAQs
Q: What is this spectroscope used for?
A: Observing spectra and estimating wavelength using a calibrated nm scale.
Q: What does the adjustable slit do?
A: It controls the amount of light entering and helps sharpen the spectral bands.
Q: What grating is fitted in the eyepiece?
A: A 600 line/mm grating.
Q: What units is the scale calibrated in?
A: Nanometres (nm).
Q: What does each digit on the scale represent?
A: 100 nm per digit.
