Description
The Plastic Refraction Tanks, also known as semicircular refraction cells, are designed for classroom optics experiments where students observe how light changes direction when passing through different liquids. These semicircular cells can be filled with selected liquids to compare their refractive properties. They are useful for demonstrating refraction, total internal reflection and the relationship between incident and refracted light paths.
The clear plastic refraction tank option is listed as 12 cm diameter × 3 cm deep. Its transparent construction supports visual observation of the light path through the liquid-filled cell. The printed angle version includes a protractor-style scale printed on the base of the cup, with degree markings along the curved edge. This helps students measure angles more easily during refraction and total internal reflection experiments.
Students can locate the object and its image, measure incident and refracted angles, and apply Snell’s Law to determine the index of refraction for different liquids. These tanks are suitable for teaching refractive index, boundary behaviour, light bending, critical angle, total internal reflection and optical ray tracing in school science laboratories and physics classrooms.
Users should confirm the selected tank type before ordering, as the clear 12 cm diameter × 3 cm deep tank and the printed-angle refraction tank are separate options. This product should be used in laboratory or educational settings only, under appropriate teacher or laboratory supervision. Liquids should be selected according to the approved classroom method and cleaned from the tank after use. This item is supplied as the selected plastic refraction tank only. Light source, laser, ray box, screen, liquids and any additional optics accessories are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Plastic Refraction Tanks for school science laboratories, physics classrooms, optics teaching spaces and general education laboratories requiring practical apparatus for refraction and total internal reflection demonstrations.
