Description
The Hofmann Voltameter, also known as a Hofmann electrolysis apparatus, is designed for demonstrating electrolysis principles in school chemistry laboratories, physics classrooms and supervised educational science settings.
This all plastic type is an Australian designed and manufactured voltameter, suitable for repeated classroom demonstration work. The plastic construction provides a robust alternative to more fragile glass apparatus used in traditional electrolysis demonstrations.
The unit includes 1 pair of platinum electrodes. These electrodes support the electrolysis process when the apparatus is used with a suitable electrolyte solution and compatible laboratory power supply, following the supplied instructions.
A Hofmann voltameter is commonly used to demonstrate the decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen gases. It helps students observe gas formation, collection and volume comparison during controlled electrolysis experiments. This model is suitable for teacher demonstrations and supervised student practicals covering electrolysis, chemical decomposition, electrodes, ionic conduction, gas production and basic electrochemical principles. Maintenance is important for safe and reliable use. The product must be washed after each use, especially after contact with electrolyte or acid solution, to help reduce residue build-up and support ongoing classroom use. Appropriate PPE must be worn when filling the apparatus with acid solution. Users should read and follow the instructions carefully, use only in a laboratory or educational setting and follow local chemical safety procedures.
LabChoice Australia supplies Hofmann Voltameters for school science departments, chemistry laboratories, physics teaching rooms and university education spaces. They are suitable for supervised electrolysis demonstrations, gas collection experiments and teaching the principles of chemical energy, electrical energy and electrochemical reactions.
