Description

The Free Fall Apparatus, also known as a free fall timing experiment system, is designed for studying falling motion, acceleration due to gravity and time-distance relationships in physics classrooms, school laboratories, university teaching laboratories and supervised mechanics demonstrations. The apparatus uses an adjustable upper platform mounted on a vertical rail, allowing users to set different fall distances for practical experiments. A lower impact sensing platform is used to stop timing when the falling ball strikes the plate.

Mechanical release models use a metallic ball to create the electrical start connection at the upper platform. The ball is held against the underside of the upper platform by gently pulling a strong cord, then released so timing begins as the ball falls and stops when it impacts the lower plate. Solenoid release models are designed for steel balls and require a compatible digital timer because the timer provides power for the solenoid. When the timer start button is pressed, the solenoid releases the ball automatically and timing stops instantly when the ball strikes the lower platform.

Available rail heights include 1 m and 1.5 m configurations. Mechanical release models are supplied with three balls of different sizes and materials, while solenoid release models are supplied with two steel balls of different sizes. Some models are supplied with the required timer, while others are supplied without the timer. Solenoid release models require a compatible timer with 0.1 ms display capability for correct operation, and users should confirm timer inclusion before selection.

Connection cables and plugs are supplied where stated in the supplied configuration. Users should confirm the selected model, timer requirement, release type, rail height and included ball set before purchase. This apparatus is intended for supervised educational and laboratory use. Falling balls, vertical rail setup, electrical timing connections and solenoid operation should be handled carefully under teacher or instructor supervision using appropriate classroom safety procedures.

LabChoice Australia supplies Free Fall Apparatus options for school physics departments, university teaching laboratories and educational mechanics workspaces. They are suitable for supervised experiments covering free fall motion, acceleration due to gravity, timing accuracy, drop height variation and introductory kinematics using compatible timers and safe laboratory procedures.
