Description
The IEC dissectible transformer is a classic teaching instrument for demonstrating transformer principles using a large iron core and interchangeable coils. The core has a 35 × 35 mm section, and the “I” section clamps to the “U” to close the magnetic circuit, helping students see how core assembly affects the magnetic path.
The standard kit includes a mains-operated primary coil with an on/off switch and a removable mains cable, plus a low-voltage, heavy-current tapped secondary coil for practical demonstrations. A plastic foot is fitted to protect the bench during setup and use.
The kit also includes a rugged spot welder and a heavy copper ring used to demonstrate induction heating, suitable for melting wax or melting solder by induced currents. Coil formers are made from heat-resistant glass-filled nylon and are described as unbreakable. A Thompson’s ring is included for classic induction demonstrations.
