Description
The Capacitor Box, also known as a decade capacitance box, is designed for selecting known capacitance values in physics laboratories, electronics classrooms, university teaching laboratories and electrical training environments. It is suitable for practical circuit work where students or technicians need to vary capacitance in a controlled and repeatable way.The range includes decade-style capacitor boxes where each rotary dial provides 10 selection steps. These models allow capacitance values to be selected in defined increments, making them useful for demonstrations involving RC circuits, charging and discharging behaviour, filtering, timing circuits and basic capacitance comparison.
Multi-dial models are available with total capacitance values of 1.11 µF, 11.1 µF and 11.11 µF. Depending on the model selected, step sizes include 0.001 µF and 0.01 µF, allowing users to choose a unit that suits the required level of adjustment for the experiment or circuit setup. The range also includes single-dial capacitance boxes. One single-dial decade model provides 10 × 1 µF steps up to 10 µF, while another single-dial model provides 12 discrete capacitance positions from 220 pF to 1.0 µF. The 12-step version selects individual capacitor values one by one and is useful for general electronics demonstrations and component comparison work.
Accuracy is typically listed as ±5% across the range. Multi-dial decade models are rated up to 400 V DC, while single-dial models are rated up to 250 V DC or 150 V AC. Users should select the correct capacitance box according to the required capacitance range, voltage rating and teaching or testing procedure. Each unit connects using 4 mm spin-free terminals, with an additional terminal available for earthing the housing if required. This connection format supports practical use with standard laboratory leads and compatible circuit apparatus.
LabChoice Australia supplies Capacitor Boxes for school physics laboratories, university teaching laboratories, electronics training rooms, electrical demonstration workspaces and general educational science environments. They are suitable for capacitance selection, RC circuit investigation, capacitor comparison, filtering demonstrations, circuit timing experiments and introductory electricity and electronics practicals under appropriate supervision.
