Description

The Density Ball Sets, 25 mm, also known as material density comparison ball sets, are designed for practical demonstrations of density, mass, volume, buoyancy and specific gravity. Each ball has a listed diameter of 25 mm, allowing students to compare materials with similar size but different mass. This makes the sets useful for showing how density depends on both mass and volume.

The 12 piece set includes 2 each of steel, brass, wood, aluminium, lead and cork. This duplicate format supports group comparison, repeated testing or paired classroom activities.

The 6 piece set includes wood, aluminium, steel, copper, plastic and brass, providing a compact selection of common materials for basic density and sink or float demonstrations.

These sets can be used for sink or float activities by placing the balls into a beaker or container of water and observing which materials float and which sink. Students can also compare mass and volume by weighing each ball on a balance and using water displacement in a graduated cylinder to estimate volume. Density can then be calculated using the relationship: density = mass ÷ volume. This supports practical links between observation, measurement and calculation. The density balls can also be used for ranking materials from lowest to highest density, comparing specific gravity behaviour and investigating how liquid density changes when salt or sugar is added to water.

These sets are suitable for school science laboratories, physics classrooms, chemistry lessons, STEM activities and university teaching demonstrations involving density and buoyancy. The set of 12 includes lead balls. Lead-containing items must be handled carefully under appropriate supervision, with suitable PPE and hand hygiene. Do not allow students to place balls in the mouth, and follow the school or laboratory safety procedure for handling and storage. This product is intended for laboratory or educational use only and should be used under appropriate teacher or laboratory supervision. This item is supplied as the selected density ball set only. Beaker, water, graduated cylinder, balance, salt, sugar, worksheets and additional accessories are not included unless specified separately.

LabChoice Australia supplies Density Ball Sets for school science laboratories, physics classrooms, chemistry teaching spaces and STEM education environments requiring practical apparatus for density, buoyancy and specific gravity demonstrations.
