Description
The Fixed PSSC Type Power Supply, also known as a Mass of an Electron experiment power supply, is designed for educational physics experiments based on the older PSSC science teaching method. This low-cost fixed output power supply is intended for use with the Mass of an Electron experiment and compatible Magic Eye tube apparatus. It uses a 12 V AC input and is not connected directly to mains voltage. The input is listed as 12 V AC, 50/60 Hz. A suitable external 12 V AC source is required to operate the unit.
The power supply provides DC outputs for running the anode/cathode circuit of the Magic Eye tube. The product title refers to 100/200 V DC output, while the detailed specification lists 100 V DC and 250 V DC at no load. Users should confirm the required experiment voltage and apparatus compatibility before use. Two DC output sets are provided for the higher voltage anode/cathode circuit. The detailed specification lists 250 V DC at no load, with 7.5 mA maximum output current. These outputs use red and black 4 mm terminals, including spin-free socket terminal and safety socket connection formats.
Two additional DC output sets are provided at 100 V DC at no load, with 15 mA maximum output current. These are listed for general purpose use and also use red and black 4 mm terminal connection formats. The unit also provides two 6.3 V AC outputs at 1 A for powering the heater of the Magic Eye tube, allowing electrons to be created at the cathode. These heater outputs use yellow and black 4 mm terminal connection formats. Dual outputs allow two compatible experiments to be performed at the same time from the same power supply, where the connected apparatus and load requirements are suitable.
A power-on LED indicator is included for clear operating status. Input protection is provided by a 20 × 5 mm, 4 A fuse, while the DC outputs include simple resistive protection against short circuits. This product is suitable for supervised physics teaching, Mass of an Electron experiments, Magic Eye tube demonstrations and older PSSC-style science teaching setups. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only. Although the input is 12 V AC, the unit generates high DC voltages and must be used only under appropriate teacher or laboratory supervisor control with suitable insulated leads and approved experiment procedures. This item is supplied as the fixed PSSC type power supply only. External 12 V AC source, Magic Eye tube, experiment apparatus, leads and additional accessories are not included unless specified separately.
