Description

The IEC Helmholtz coils are precision-made coils designed for magnetic field strength study using the standard Helmholtz pair arrangement. Each coil is wound with 400 turns of wire on a heat-resistant polycarbonate former. Moulded feet allow the coils to rest securely on the bench and locate over a standard 1/2 metre rule, with the coil spacing adjusted using the wooden rule supplied. The coils are normally used as a matched pair to create a more uniform magnetic field between them.
Each coil is fitted with 4 mm spin-free IEC terminals for reliable connections, and the current direction is clearly marked on each coil to support correct series wiring and repeatable setup. Maximum recommended coil current is 1 A to avoid overheating. Coil resistance is approximately 20 Ω when cold and about 25 Ω when warm, which is useful for understanding heating-related resistance change during practical work.
