Description
The Photoelectric Effect Apparatus, also known as a Planck’s constant demonstration apparatus, is designed for teaching the photoelectric effect in physics classrooms, university teaching laboratories and supervised educational optics and modern physics experiments. This new version uses two separate digital meters, allowing students and instructors to view both important readings at the same time. One meter displays the current through the photo tube, while the second meter displays the backing voltage required to bring the current exactly to zero.
The current meter displays photo tube current in 0.1 nanoamp resolution. This supports practical observation of small photocurrents during experiments involving light intensity, filter selection and photoelectric response. The voltage meter displays the backing volts used to stop the photoelectric current. This is the key measurement used during photoelectric effect experiments where stopping potential is compared under different light conditions.
Because both current and backing voltage readings are visible without switching, experiments can be faster, clearer and less confusing for students. This dual-meter layout supports structured teaching where students need to observe current change and stopping voltage behaviour together. The light source follows the traditional method of using a white light source with colour filters. This allows students to investigate the effect of different filtered light colours during demonstrations of photoelectric behaviour and Planck’s constant concepts. The photo tube cathode is coated with caesium and antimony on silver oxide, as supplied. This coating supports the photoelectric response required for the experiment when used with the appropriate light source and filter arrangement.
This apparatus is intended for supervised educational and laboratory use. Users should follow appropriate electrical safety procedures, avoid unnecessary exposure to bright light sources and operate the instrument according to the supplied experiment instructions.
LabChoice Australia supplies Photoelectric Effect Apparatus for school physics departments, university teaching laboratories and modern physics teaching environments. It is suitable for supervised demonstrations of photoelectric emission, stopping potential, photocurrent behaviour, light frequency effects and Planck’s constant experiments using compatible lamp and filter arrangements.
