Description
The Student Flame Spectrometer, also known as a flame emission and atomic absorption teaching spectrometer, is designed for the study of flame emission, atomic absorption spectrometry and colourimetry in educational laboratory settings. It is suitable for school chemistry laboratories, university teaching laboratories, analytical chemistry training rooms and supervised classroom demonstrations. This instrument provides a practical teaching platform for demonstrating how flame-based analytical techniques are used to observe emission, absorption and colour-related measurement principles. It helps students connect spectroscopy theory with visible practical operation in a classroom or teaching laboratory environment.
The unit can be used either with or without a computer, giving teachers flexibility during demonstrations and practical lessons. For computer-based operation, it is supplied with RS232 connectivity, all required cables and Windows-based software for compatible system use. The spectrometer is complete with air and gas controls for atomising the sample and running the burner. These controls support the flame setup required for sample introduction, burner operation and supervised flame emission or atomic absorption teaching work.
A nebuliser is supplied with the instrument for sample introduction. The package also includes instructions and experiments devised by Monash University, supporting structured classroom use and guided educational demonstrations. For atomic absorption work, the unit is normally used with a sodium light source. The sodium light source is not supplied, so users should confirm light source availability, accessory compatibility and lesson requirements before planning atomic absorption experiments. This instrument involves flame, gas supply and atomised sample handling, so it must be used only under appropriate supervision by trained staff or qualified instructors. Users should follow suitable laboratory safety procedures, confirm gas connection requirements, ensure appropriate ventilation and use compatible samples and validated teaching methods.
LabChoice Australia supplies Student Flame Spectrometers for chemistry teaching laboratories, school science departments, university laboratories and analytical chemistry education environments. They are suitable for supervised flame emission studies, introductory atomic absorption demonstrations, colourimetry teaching and practical spectroscopy experiments using compatible software, accessories and safety procedures.
