Description
The thermo-generator is a thermoelectric cell that operates using the Peltier effect. Unlike a thermocouple, which generates a small voltage when a junction of two different metals is heated, this unit produces a temperature difference when DC current is driven through many junctions formed into a flat plate. One face becomes hot and the opposite face becomes cold, making the heating and cooling effect easy to observe in real time.
In the IEC thermo-generator, two 4 mm sockets allow DC to be applied using standard lab leads. The hot and cold sides are very obvious during operation, and under suitable conditions the cold side can drop low enough for ice to form, providing a strong visual demonstration for thermoelectric lessons.
