Description

The Constant-Current Capacitor Charging Apparatus, also known as a capacitor charging apparatus or constant-current capacitance experiment set, is designed for studying capacitor charge behaviour in classroom and laboratory circuits. Using the IEC charge on capacitor method, the value of a capacitor in microfarads, µF, can be calculated from measurements and first principles. The charging current is adjusted to a very small value and held constant during charging. Students then monitor the voltage across the capacitor and record the time taken during the charging process.

The voltage on the capacitor is monitored using a high-impedance digital voltmeter, 10 megohms as listed, while time is checked using a stopwatch. The apparatus uses a 9 V battery power source as listed, providing a compact and convenient low-voltage supply for classroom capacitor charging experiments. The currents used are normally less than 1 mA, so battery life should be long under normal educational use.

This apparatus is suitable for teaching capacitance, electric charge, current, voltage-time relationships, circuit measurement and experimental calculation of capacitor value. Users should confirm the supplied capacitor range, current adjustment method, battery inclusion, voltmeter requirement, stopwatch requirement and full experiment procedure before ordering or use. Use only with approved low-voltage classroom circuits. Do not short-circuit the capacitor, reverse polarised capacitors, exceed component ratings or connect the apparatus to unsuitable external power sources.

Capacitors should be safely discharged according to the approved procedure before handling, changing connections or storing the apparatus. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected charge on capacitor constant current apparatus with listed 9 V power source only. Digital voltmeter, stopwatch, additional capacitors, leads, worksheets, batteries beyond the supplied arrangement, PPE and additional electricity accessories are not included unless specified separately.

LabChoice Australia supplies Charge on Capacitor Apparatus and electricity teaching equipment for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories and educational facilities requiring practical demonstrations of capacitance, charge and constant-current circuits.
