Description
The Digital Geiger Counter, also known as a laboratory radiation counter, is designed for supervised radiation detection demonstrations, classroom experiments and field observation activities using a compatible Geiger-Müller tube. It is suitable for physics laboratories, school science departments, university teaching laboratories and supervised educational environments. This instrument is designed to work with a remote GM tube in a holder, connected by a standard BNC plug. The supplied title specifies that the unit is supplied without the tube, batteries or plug pack, so compatible accessories should be selected separately before use.
When used with a compatible large sensitive thin mica window GM tube, the system can detect gamma, beta and high-energy alpha particles. This supports practical teaching of radiation detection, count rate behaviour and shielding or distance demonstrations where suitable approved sources and procedures are used.
The counter provides selectable operating modes for continuous counting, counts over preset times or rate display as counts per second. These options support classroom comparison activities and structured practical work where students need to observe changes in count level over time. The tube voltage can be adjusted up to 500 V, supporting setup with compatible GM tubes. Users should confirm tube voltage requirements, BNC connection compatibility and operating procedure before use. The unit is powered by 3 × AA cells and includes a low battery warning. A socket is also provided for a standard 240/12 V AC plug pack, allowing the unit to operate from a suitable external supply if the cells become flat. Batteries and plug pack are not supplied. The instrument is described as light, robust and useful for both field work and classroom use. Other models are available with an inbuilt tube, but this version is specified for use with a separate compatible remote GM tube. This product is intended for educational and laboratory use under appropriate supervision. Radiation demonstrations should be performed only by trained staff using approved sources, suitable shielding, controlled handling procedures and applicable institutional safety rules.
LabChoice Australia supplies Digital Geiger Counters for school physics laboratories, university teaching laboratories, radiation education demonstrations and supervised field observation activities. They are suitable for count rate measurement, radiation detection teaching, shielding demonstrations and introductory nuclear science experiments using compatible GM tubes and validated safety procedures.
