Description
Boyle’s law teaching apparatus supplied as either a simple syringe type system using applied weights to compress gas and read approximate volume changes on the syringe scale, or as a higher pressure non mercury kit using a sealed pressure container, gauge, air pump, coloured fluid and a heavy walled glass tube where rising pressure drives fluid up the tube and reduces trapped air volume for pressure volume calculations.
Syringe type Boyle’s law apparatus described as convenient and low cost, with approximate results expected due to friction losses. Uses a commercial plastic syringe and weights placed on the system to compress the gas to desired volumes. Distances moved by the plunger are marked on the syringe by way of volume. High pressure Boyle’s law apparatus performing the experiment at higher pressures without using mercury. A small high pressure container holds a safe coloured fluid. When pressure is raised by a small air pump, pressure is read on a gauge and the fluid is pushed up a heavy walled glass tube. Air volume in the glass tube reduces as pressure rises. Adjustable pointer can be clamped along the scale to indicate starting volume. Calculations are made using pressure and volume to demonstrate Boyle’s law. Kit complete with air pump and coloured fluid.
