Description
The Wide Range Specific Gravity Hydrometers, also known as 200 Series specific gravity hydrometers, are designed for measuring the relative density of compatible liquids against water on the 60/60°F specific gravity scale. The specific gravity 60/60°F scale compares the relative density of a liquid with water at 60°F, also listed as 15.6°C, making these hydrometers suitable for compatible density and specific gravity measurement workflows. Each hydrometer has an overall length of 250 mm, with a bulb diameter of 18 to 20 mm and an approximate weight of 42 g, including the 11 g protective plastic tube as listed.
The listed specification gives an accuracy of 0.004 S60/60°F and divisions of 0.002 S60/60°F, supporting broad-range specific gravity readings where this level of resolution is suitable. The hydrometers are made from soda glass with steel shot ballast and synthetic wax resin, providing a traditional floating hydrometer format for compatible laboratory liquids. The supplied information states that these instruments are similar to hydrometers included in ISO 650 and in the now superseded 1960 issue of British Standard 718. Users should confirm any current standard, certificate or compliance requirement before procurement.
Available ranges include low tension options for 0.600–0.800 and 0.800–1.000, and medium tension options for 1.000–1.200, 1.200–1.400, 1.600–1.800 and 1.800–2.000 as listed. Users should confirm sample type, required specific gravity range, surface tension category, liquid temperature, measuring cylinder size, accuracy requirement and cleaning method before ordering or use. For best readings, use a clean hydrometer and a suitable tall measuring cylinder, allow the hydrometer to float freely, avoid contact with the cylinder wall, and read the meniscus according to the approved laboratory method. Glass hydrometers should be handled carefully. Avoid impact, dropping, sudden temperature change and contact with unsuitable chemicals that may affect the glass, ballast or resin.
Do not use broken or cracked hydrometers. If breakage occurs, follow approved glass cleanup and chemical spill procedures for the liquid being tested. This product is intended for laboratory or educational settings only and should be used under appropriate supervision. This item is supplied as the selected wide range specific gravity hydrometer with protective plastic tube only. Measuring cylinder, sample liquid, thermometer, calibration certificate, cleaning accessories, PPE and additional hydrometers are not included unless specified separately.
LabChoice Australia supplies Wide Range Specific Gravity Hydrometers and laboratory liquid measurement tools for school science laboratories, university teaching laboratories, research facilities and general laboratory environments requiring practical instruments for density and specific gravity measurement.
