Description
Classic cast iron bar breaker apparatus demonstrating the forces of thermal expansion and contraction. A steel bar sits in a cast iron frame and is locked by a cast iron pin. A gas burner fitted into the cast base heats the bar until expansion breaks the pin with a loud report, then a new pin can be fitted while hot and broken again as the bar cools and contracts. Models are available for coal, natural gas, or LP gas.
