- The IEC ‘Tensile Testing Machine’ is a simple but effective system of measuring the tensile strength of metals. Wire is used so that the forces involved are small and can easily be applied in the classroom.
- The machine uses an accurate dial indicator (resolution of 0.01mm) to measure stretch (extension) and uses a set of normal slotted weights to apply tensile forces to the various wires.
- The machine provides 3 different anchor points for the wires so that, effectively, the wires can be tested at 3 different lengths.
- The machine is supplied with rolls of .037mmD copper wire, 0.32mmD brass wire and 0.28mmD iron wire. NOTE:: The 9x50g and / or 9x100g slotted weight sets are not supplied with the machine.

The wheel and axle apparatus is a simple dual-diameter pulley set designed for studying mechanical ratios and pulley behaviour using weights and cord. It consists of two pulleys made from very strong 5-ply timber, sealed against moisture, with diameters of 150 mm and 75 mm fixed together as one unit.
A central bearing allows the pulley set to rotate freely on a strong 10 mm diameter rod. By winding cords around each pulley diameter and applying weights, students can compare the effect of radius on effort and load, and study double pulley style ratios in a clear, hands-on way.
