Description

The IEC electric motor generator set consists of two medium-sized DC motors with permanent magnet fields, coupled by pulleys and a small belt. One motor is driven as a DC motor while the second operates as a DC generator, allowing clear demonstrations of energy conversion from electrical to mechanical, then back to electrical.
Efficiency can be measured by comparing the electrical energy supplied to the motor with the electrical energy taken from the generator. The set is suited to operation around 6 V DC, with a maximum of 16 V as specified. With the belt removed, either motor can be used independently for other mechanical experiments or drive applications.

FAQs
Q: What is included in the set?
A: Two DC motors with permanent magnet fields, pulleys, and a small coupling belt.
Q: How does it work as a motor generator system?
A: One motor is powered as a DC motor, it drives the second unit through the belt so it behaves as a DC generator.
Q: What can be measured with this setup?
A: Efficiency, by comparing electrical input to the motor versus electrical output from the generator.
Q: What voltage is it intended to run at?
A: Around 6 V DC, with a maximum of 16 V as specified.
Q: Can the motors be used separately?
A: Yes, removing the belt allows either motor to be used for other mechanical purposes.
