Description
The IEC photo gate is a universal sensor for detecting when an object breaks a red LED light beam as it passes through the gate. It is used for timing and motion measurements where a clean beam-interrupt signal is needed, across a wide range of classroom and laboratory experiments.
Adaptors are available so standard gates can click onto the edges of the IEC air track, allowing gliders to pass through the beam for consistent, repeatable runs. The LED requires 12 V AC or DC, and IEC electronic timers can respond to the photogate signal for event timing and measurement tasks.
Photogates developed for the “Genius” timer allow the LED to be powered and the signal to be returned using the same cable and plug. The timer can operate two gates simultaneously for dual-gate measurements.
