Description

This U-core electromagnet set is a simple teaching and demonstration unit built from two 600-turn coils wound on steel centres that form a magnetic yoke. The coils connect in series and terminate to 2 × 4 mm spin-free IEC terminals for straightforward wiring to a power source.
A steel plate fitted with a hook acts as the armature, the moving part that is held to the cores by magnetic attraction. The holding force increases as current increases through the combined turns of both coils. The unit is designed for 12 V DC operation and can also be used on AC or DC to demonstrate differences in electromagnet behaviour.

FAQs
Q: How many coils and turns are used?
A: Two coils, 600 turns each, wound on steel centres.
Q: How are the coils connected?
A: In series, with connections via 4 mm spin-free IEC terminals.
Q: What is the armature?
A: A steel plate with a hook fitted, acting as the moving part.
Q: What controls the holding force?
A: The current through both coils, higher current increases holding force.
Q: Can it run on AC as well as DC?
A: Yes, it can be used on either AC or DC to demonstrate differences.
