Description
IEC electroscopes in a metal housing with glass sides for detecting electrostatic charge by deflection when charge is deposited on the top electrode disc. Options include a sensitive, robust metal vane electroscope with a thin pivoted vane, and a gold leaf electroscope using an ultra thin gold leaf in a frame. Both include a 4 mm socket for earthing the casing, and a removable glass side panel for access or for inserting radioactive sources in other experiments.
IEC metal vane electroscope designed to be very sensitive for detecting electrostatic charge while remaining robust and not easily damaged. A very thin metal vane is carefully pivoted and balanced in a small frame inside a container with glass sides. When charge is deposited on the electrode disc at the top, the vane pivots and deflects. A 4 mm socket is provided for earthing the metal casing. One glass side panel is removable for access or for inserting radioactive sources for other experiments. Older gold leaf style is described as becoming less popular because it is very easily damaged during use and especially during transport.

When charge is deposited on the electrode disc at the top, the gold leaf deflects away from the frame. To avoid breakage of the gold leaf during shipment, instructions and 3 gold leaves are provided for the user to fit. A 4 mm socket is provided for earthing the metal casing. One glass side panel is removable for access or for inserting radioactive sources.
