Powell’s Pattern Wave Motion Apparatus with Rotatable Scale Indicator

$176.00(Ex GST)

  • Powell’s wave motion demonstrator, moulded mechanism, smooth and quiet turning for classroom viewing.
  • Shows transverse wave motion, particle motion perpendicular to wave direction, clear visual pattern.
  • Shows longitudinal wave motion, particle motion parallel to wave direction, compare against transverse.
  • Handle scale 0–360°, tracks one full cycle, supports phase and angle correlation activities.
  • Cam rotation drives sine-wave action, relate angle to wave position during step-by-step rotation.

Description

The IEC Powell’s wave motion apparatus is a moulded, smooth-running demonstrator for visualising wave propagation in a mechanical system. It can show both longitudinal and transverse wave motion, supporting clear classroom explanation of how particle motion relates to wave direction in each case.
A 0–360° scale at the handle links the observed sine-wave style motion to the angle rotated by the cams. This allows students to relate cam rotation angle to wave phase position and track how the wave pattern changes as the mechanism is turned through a full cycle.

FAQs
Q: What wave types can this apparatus demonstrate?
A: Longitudinal and transverse wave motion.
Q: What does the 0–360° scale do?
A: It provides an angle reference for studying sine wave action relative to cam rotation.
Q: What is the mechanism that drives the motion?
A: Rotating cams, as specified.
Q: What is the key learning outcome?
A: Linking mechanical motion to wave behaviour and phase over a full rotation.
Q: Is this designed for classroom use?
A: Yes, it is described as a moulded, quietly running teaching system.
