Description
Kipps Gas Generator Apparatus, Polyethylene is designed for safe, controlled generation of laboratory gases on demand in teaching and routine demonstration environments. The three chamber design allows reagents to be kept separate until required, then brought into contact to produce gas, with generation rate controlled by the stopcock and liquid level within the apparatus. This enables convenient preparation of gases such as carbon dioxide or hydrogen sulphide in small quantities for qualitative chemistry, gas testing, and classic school laboratory experiments, while reducing the need to handle large pre-filled gas cylinders for short duration work.
Manufactured from high quality polyethylene (PE), the apparatus is lightweight, impact resistant, and well suited to education settings where glass breakage risk is higher. Polyethylene offers good resistance to many aqueous reagents and dilute acids commonly used in Kipps generator demonstrations, and the transparent body helps students and technicians observe liquid movement and reaction control. Smooth internal surfaces support easier rinsing and cleaning between uses, helping reduce residue build-up and improve repeatability.
Quality standards context (ISO and ASTM): polyethylene material specification is commonly referenced to ISO 17855-1 for polyethylene moulding and extrusion materials, with PE material requirements also commonly referenced to ASTM D4976. These standards support consistent polymer identification and quality verification where supplier documentation is available. Always confirm chemical compatibility for your exact reagents, and follow local laboratory safety procedures, including use of fume cupboards for hazardous gases and appropriate gas scrubbing where required.
Supplied by LabChoice Australia, this polyethylene Kipps gas generator is widely used across Australian schools, universities, and teaching laboratories where safe, controllable gas generation supports practical chemistry instruction.
